Metadata is any type of information Revere Mobile stores about a subscriber. That information could be a subscriber’s name, zip code, a date they volunteered, or even their favorite pizza topping. Metadata can be collected in mobile flows from user input and/or from uploads appending or overwriting current data.
To manage your metadata, click the Lists tab and then the Metadata tab. Here you can view your types of metadata and delete or edit them as needed.
To create a metadata field, click on the Create New Metadata button near the top right corner.
Once the Create Metadata window opens, you can name your metadata field and determine its type. The types of metadata are:
Text, which can contain any alphanumeric values up to the character length you supply.
Text Only, which would contain any alphabetical value A-Z.
Email, following the format of firstname.lastname@example.org
State, where state is entered in its 2 letter abbreviated format.
Zip Code, where zip code follows the standard 5-digit format. Do not include +4.
Number, for strictly numerical values; the character length you supply is the number of digits allowed.
Boolean, which allows only the values “yes” and “no”.
You can go on to choose whether you want your metadata to be open or predefined. Predefined will allow you to generate a drop-down menu of potential values that will appear on broadcast filter.
Specify a character limit, decide whether or not you want to overwrite old metadata, like when we do an upload that includes already-existing subscribers and there is a different value for employer…should the new overwrite the old or should it simply be added to it (multiple values for a single field)? Save.
List the values in the text field. Each value may have spaces in it but there should be no space between values, just a comma. Also, be careful that there are no commas within values.

From there, you can check to allow updates to overwrite existing metadata in case a subscriber changes their residence, email address, or any other piece of metadata tagged to your subscribers you wish to keep current. You can also click to post any metadata changes to a web service. When this option is chosen, several metadata tokens will appear for you to place in a URL. When you are done, click to save.
To edit an existing piece of metadata, click the Edit Metadata icon or pencil icon. From there, you can edit the same parameters contained as if you were creating a new piece of metadata.
You can filter metadata by name or type. Account level metadata is basic metadata that come with your mobile service (eg. First, Last, Zipcode), Group level metadata is data that was created exclusively for your mobile account, it is a best practice to start all Group level fields with the name of your organization (eg. [Campaign Name] Welcomed, [Campaign Name] Volunteer), and System level metadata is data that is collected based on cell phone information (eg. carrier, area code).
You can filter by metadata when sending broadcasts, read more about it in our article about Filtering Broadcasts.
When it comes to uploading metadata, talk to your client service representative here at Revolution Messaging. We can take care of uploading that information on our end.
